The mid 1700's, in America's Ohio River Valley, were difficult times. The pioneers who settled this area, struggled to overcome many obstacles. They dealt with inclement weather, clearing of land, starvation, and the native American Indian tribes who understandably fought to keep their ancestral lands. But those settlers who survived built a growing economy based on self-reliance and freedom. The early American pioneers had come from other countries all over the world and learned to appreciate their new-found freedoms. As European governments began to seek control of the American economies, the pioneering peoples viewed this as another obstacle to overcome.
The Mandolin Man was the first of a long line of family members to fight against foreign invaders seeking to control the lands, economy, and to subjugate its people. These same invading powers had established empires and enslaved populations all over the world with little or no resistance. The difference the invaders found in America, was a people who did not want, nor would they be subjugated as they had been in Europe. The American settlers had tasted freedom and were willing and had the firearms to resist and defeat the tyranny they thought had been left behind.
