The Long Account is a work of fiction. It is the story of Daniel Cole, an attorney at a very successful personal injury law firm in Philadelphia. He is a key trial attorney with the firm. He has three partners at the firm, Callahan, March, Drennan and Cole. The firm is an upstart and has achieved significant legal victories, and by so doing has achieved significant fees and financial success. They are unafraid to take on the large insurance companies and health care providers. However, there is a problem. To achieve the successes, certain partners in the firm have insiders at the various hospitals, and those insiders create fraudulent medical records, which are used in the various litigation and settlement discussions. To prevent this fraud from being discovered, the three partners, Callahan, Marsh and Drennan, decide to make Daniel Cole the fall guy. He is subsequently prosecuted, disbarred and imprisoned. In prison, Cole meets Walter Cord. Walter Cord is an aging former OSS operative in World War II. Cord discovered what is thought to be the famous Nazi gold. Cord had been able to secure the Nazi gold in various accounts in Switzerland and manage the investments for a period of more than 50 years. Cole befriends Cord. Cord teaches Cole about the international commodities markets. Cole is a fast learner. He absorbs the teachings of Cord. Cord subsequently dies in prison. He provides access to the various Swiss Bank accounts of Cole. Cole is subsequently released on a technicality, and he heads to Europe. With the riches created by Cord, Cole creates several international commodities trading firms. He resides in Europe and builds an empire in Africa and other developing countries. Once successful, he sets up an elaborate scheme to seek revenge on his former law partners, who not only betrayed him but also ruined his life. The partners have not stopped their nefarious conduct, and they play into the hands of Cole, who is able to seek his revenge. Ultimately, bringing down the corruption that imprisoned him Read more
