Vaccinium formosum x corymbosum 'Star'

Star, a patented Florida selection, lives up to its name with its large, sweet, and flavorful berries that show a pronounced star shape to the blossom end of each berry. This variety is well-suited for mild winter climates, like the Northwest and California. As one of the leading Southern Highbush varieties, Star is a strong grower with dependable berry quality and good ripening concentration, making it easy to harvest quickly by hand.

While Star blueberries boast many advantages, it's important to note that this variety is susceptible to botrytis during wet springs and fruit cracking when heavy rains occur during ripening. Thus, we recommend Star blueberry plantings in medium chill sites, in soils with high organic matter and low ph. Yields increase dramatically when paired with another Southern Highbush variety, like Emerald, O'Neal or Legacy.
