P&H - Volan 160 Performance

The hull geometry handles its end of the bargain reliably. Bow rocker and volume keep the ride dry across varying conditions, the shaped bow deck sheds water cleanly and resists purling, and the reinforced bow deck structure holds up during deep water rescues when you need it most. The low rear deck supports rolling and re-entry without a struggle, and the paddle shaft recess gives you a controlled bracing point getting back in after a swim. Large bow and stern hatches plus a day hatch keep gear accessible and well distributed, with an optional bow mini hatch and full deck lines and elastics rounding out the setup.

The Expedition layup is where this build earns its name. The hull is hand laid and vacuum bagged before being infused with vinylester resin, while the deck is hand laid with vinylester resin brushed into the weave. The result is P&H's toughest, stiffest construction at a weight that won't punish you on a portage. This is the build for paddlers heading into serious conditions on Canadian coastlines and remote waterways where there's no margin for gear failure.
