Lobelia Cardinalis

Lobelia cardinalis can be found growing wild in North America. Known as Cardinal Plant for short, it is a versatile aquatic plant that is commonly used in planted aquariums, nano tanks, and aquascaping projects. It is typically cultivated in marshy, bog-like environments and is easily recognized for its dark green leaves with purple undersides. In planted tanks, its foliage is typically a lighter green and its bush-like growth makes it a great midground plant in layouts.

It is very versatile with growing conditions and can be planted in both submerged or emersed environments. Above water, it may also bloom scarlet red flowers from time to time. While it isn't considered an advanced plant, it will appreciate moderate to high lighting levels, nutrient-dense aquarium soil and CO2 when possible. Once established, trim is periodically to encourage off-shoots for a bushier result. Propagate by trimming stems and replanting or pulling apart dense clumps and splitting the roots.
