Bright green, grass-like foliage is topped with numerous very dark brown seed heads making it an attractive and unusual addition to a pond and giving it it's common name. Little maintenance is required. Trim just above the water surface after foliage has died back in Autumn to tidy leaving a little material to protect new shoots.
Pond Planet Marginal Plant Guide:
Marginal plants are best placed on shelves or shallow areas within a pond. Plants with a minimum planting depth of 0cm are also suitable for planting outside of the pond in damp ground making them ideal for bog gardens. Marginal planting depths are provided as a guide only, with the depth being the amount of water between the water surface and the top of the pond basket.
We recommend that 9cm marginal plants be potted up into a larger pond basket to allow room for growth. Make sure to position these smaller sized plants no deeper than 25% of the maximum recommended planting depth to allow the plants to mature.
It is not necessary to re-pot 1ltr marginal plants however it would be beneficial, especially for taller plants above 50cm in height to help prevent them from falling over. Place this size of plant in the pond no deeper than 50% of the maximum recommended planting depth to allow the plants to establish themselves.
Given that 3ltr and 5ltr plants are larger and more established they do not require repotting, and can be placed up to the maximum recommended depth.
