As no independent version of an ambulance vehicle was available on the W50 chassis for use by fire departments, the BTP (construction vehicle) developed for the post and energy industry had to be used for this purpose. The vehicle is made up of a ten-seat cabin and a platform. A ladder guide frame was installed on the roof of the drivers cab, as well as an inflatable boat and an ice sledge for attaching ladders. The RTGW, which had only been produced 35 times until 1989, was reserved for the fire service and larger volunteer fire departments.
