These spreaders are designed to prevent trolling tangles by separating the rigged lure, from the weight. The rigged lure connects to the spreaders long arm with a three to four inch leader. The weight is then hung from the short arm using an eighteen inch leader, while the mainline attaches to the swivel at the juncture.
