Cryptocoryne beckettii is a long-standing favorite aquarium plant in the hobby. Its slightly wavy leaves range from deep green to brown depending on tank conditions. It has a more upright growth pattern but doesn’t get overly large, making it a great midground aquatic plant for planted aquariums. Its varying color pairs well with finer plants like mosses or ferns, where its broader leaves help break up texture.
Like other Cryptocoryne species, it can be susceptible to crypt melt during the initial stages, but with stable conditions will generally recover without issue. It’s well suited for low light setups as long as parameters remain consistent without major swings. Plant it in nutrient-rich aquarium soil or supplement with root tabs. CO2 injection isn’t required, but will improve overall growth and density.
A solid, easy-going aquarium plant that fits into a wide range of aquascapes, especially if you’re going for a more natural, biotope-style or slightly darker look.
