Cryptocoryne Affinis is a species of Cryptocoryne that can be found growing densely in groups located in western Malaysia. This species of Cryptocoryne used to be widespread within the hobby, but in recent times, it is increasingly difficult to find. Cryptocoryne Affinis is comparable in appearance to that of Cryptocoryne Wendtii and Cryptocoryne Beckettii and with these species being much easier to propagate, Crypt Affinis isn't as widely available now. This fact makes it much more appealing to Cryptocoryne enthusiasts and it is now considered a highly coveted species within the planted tank hobby. Cryptocoryne Affinis features smooth leaves that vary in dark green coloration, a colored bottom and lightly colored veins that form a distinct pattern on the leaf's upper side. Cryptocoryne Affinis can vary in size and final size is determined by the environment in which it is kept. When provided with strong lighting and CO2, Cryptocoryne Affinis grows shorter and flatter with a wider spread. The alternative yields heights of around 15 inches, if the low-tech environment is optimal. Cryptocoryne species are fairly hardy once adapted to the aquarium but do not appreciate being moved around so once a spot is chosen, care should be taken to not disturb the plant and parameters within the tank should not fluctuate too quickly.

Propagation is done by splitting the rhizome or cutting off new growth and replanting.

Tissue culture plants are grown in-vitro by laboratories who specialize in propagating aquatic plants. There is a huge selection of plant species that have been propagated this way. This is truly the best option for those who want absolutely zero unwanted pests, algae and pesticides. This makes them perfect for shrimp keepers and any planted tank enthusiasts alike.

NOTE: It is important to remove the tissue culture agar gel before planting. Simply wash the gel away, divide, and plant.
