Bluespot Butterflyfish

The Bluespot Butterflyfish is a strikingly beautiful member of the Chaetodontidae family prized for its vibrant yellow body and brilliant iridescent blue blotch along the flanks. Delicate horizontal striping, a bold black eye band, and a false eyespot near the tail combine to create an elegant and highly recognizable appearance that makes this species a standout addition to larger marine aquariums.

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, the Bluespot Butterflyfish inhabits coral-rich lagoons and outer reef slopes where it is commonly observed swimming alone or in pairs among rockwork and coral formations. Juveniles have even been observed acting as cleaner fish in the wild by removing parasites from larger reef fish.

The Bluespot Butterflyfish is generally peaceful and should be housed with other non-aggressive tankmates. Though hardy for a butterflyfish species, it is not considered reef safe as it may nip at soft corals, stony corals, tube worms, ornamental shrimp, and anemones. Larger aquariums with ample swimming space and established rockwork are recommended.

The Bluespot Butterflyfish requires a varied diet consisting of vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, spirulina, marine algae, seaweed, and high-quality frozen marine preparations. Frequent feedings will help maintain vibrant coloration and overall health. Feed at least two to three times daily.
