Description: The Black Tang originates from seaward reefs and lagoons around islands in the Eastern Central Pacific. This is a unique Zebrasoma sp. tang characterized by its long snout, solid black coloration, and a white caudal-peduncle spine. They use the long snout to reach algae in hard-to-reach places. This tang is slightly aggressive as it becomes established in the tank, but it will add a lot of activity to larger reef or fish-only tanks. It is important to feed the Black Tang a diet including: high-quality Marine Fish pellet food, meaty frozen food, and seaweed. Tangs are generally more susceptible to ich and other marine ectoparasites. We STRONGLY recommend utilizing a protein skimmer and UV sterilizer when housing the Black Tang. Soaking pellet food with Vitamin C every day will help boost the fish's immune system to fight off disease. Do not mix this fish with other Zebrasoma sp. tangs, as fighting will ensue.
