Pomacanthus annularis - The Bluering Angelfish, also known as the Annularis Angelfish, is one of the true showstoppers of the marine aquarium world. As juveniles, they have a dark body marked with bright white and blue stripes, giving them a bold, high-contrast look that stands out immediately. As they mature, they undergo a dramatic transformation into striking adults with golden-orange bodies, electric blue accents, and the signature blue ring near the rear of the body that gives this species its common name. Watching that change take place over time is one of the most rewarding parts of keeping this fish.

This species as an adult has a big, confident presence and does best in a spacious aquarium with plenty of rockwork for grazing, exploration, and establishing territory. Bluering Angelfish are active swimmers and intelligent fish, quickly learning their environment and often becoming one of the most noticeable and interactive inhabitants in the tank. Their beauty and personality make them especially appealing for hobbyists looking for a centerpiece fish with both size and presence.

These juveniles should be kept in an acclimation box initially to help them acclimate to the new tank in safety. Avoid keeping small fish with large, aggressive fish.

Like many large angelfish, the Bluering/Annularis Angelfish is best suited for aquarists with some experience keeping marine fish. They appreciate a varied diet that includes angelfish preparations, algae-based foods, and other high-quality frozen or prepared options to support long-term health and coloration. In reef aquariums, caution is advised, as they may nip at corals, clam mantles, and other sessile invertebrates. In the right setup, though, this is a spectacular and rewarding species that brings movement, color, and unmistakable character to a large marine display.
