Description: A fish from the west coast of Africa, Africanus Angels readily accept all prepared foods. As a juvenile, this fish is a vibrant blue with a white, vertical band centered on the body, and has a bright yellow mouth and caudal fin. As a sub-adult, the Africanus Angel keeps the white band towards the center of the body, but the fish changes to yellow with black accents above the eye and on the peduncle region. As a full-grown adult, this fish is a pale yellow color with gray and black accents. The size of the aquarium must be upgraded as the fish grows. UV sterilization is highly recommended, as the Africanus Angel is prone to parasitic infections. Adding a protein skimmer to the filtration system will increase the effectiveness of the UV sterilizer. Africanus Angelfish are a semi-aggressive species and will become more territorial as they become established in the tank. They should not be placed in reefs as they will nip at corals and fleshy invertebrates. It is recommended to practice caution when mixing this fish with other angelfish. Do not mix the Africanus Angel with other Holocanthus sp. angelfish.
