The original purpose of this work of fiction was to show gay people that they are not broken. They were created by God to be exactly who they are. While the main topic is still the same, it has also turned into a romantic love story between the two main characters, Adam and Steve. The book opens at a gay campground where a Christian group is having a retreat. Steve and Adam both come to the retreat as virgins, and they certainly plan to stay that way. Adam is the twenty-four-year-old worship leader at a Lutheran church in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Steve is twenty-three and the son of a pastor at one of the largest Methodist churches in Scranton. The two of them meet at the retreat with the help of Gary and Patrick O'Riley. Gary and Patrick are familiar with the campground as they grew up in the general area of it and had each been here many times. Both Adam and Steve are struggling with the romantic aspect of their relationship. Adam is already out and accepted as he is by his family and church; however, Steve is not yet out, and he does not feel like he has the option of coming out because of who his father is. As the story continues, Steve finally comes out to his family, and his father seems to be struggling greatly with this revelation. He does finally start to come around and accept that his son is gay. This story is a large mix of emotions from comedy, romance, drama, sadness, and extensive erotic sexual scenes throughout the story. There is a lot of clarification on the Bible, Jesus, and how they deal with people who are different, which starkly contrasts to the way that homosexuals are treated by the church and people who claim to be Christians. It goes into the judgment and ridicule that homosexuals go through by the people who should, in all reality, by Christ's example, love and accept them for who they are.
